Assault of a pregnant juvenile
(Grand Island, NE) – Tuesday night, Grand Island Police arrived to a call to 415 South Cherry Street to a pregnant juvenile female reportedly being assaulted by her guardian, Maria Carranza, after Maria pulled her hair and rammed her head against a wall. It was reported that after her head struck a wall, the juvenile fell unconscious for a short period of time when Maria proceeded to kick her head and abdominal area. It was also reported Maria, while actively striking her, stated she was doing so in an attempt to end the life of the unborn child. The juvenile female had visible injuries and complaints of sustained pain. A GIPD interview of Maria found that she, through a fit of rage, attempted to punish the juvenile female as well as end the life of the unborn child. Maria Carranza-Contreras was arrested for Assault; 3rd Degree; Enhanced: Pregnant and Child Abuse.
