#2 UConn Defeats Men's Hoops at Creighton vs. Cancer Pink Out
OMAHA, Neb. -- Second-ranked Connecticut made 16-of-31 three-point shots to defeat Creighton, 85-58, at the Jays annual Pink Out game. A sellout crowd of 18,650 -- the eighth-largest home crowd in Bluejay history -- was on hand.
Nik Graves (17) and Blake Harper (11) returned to the starting line-up and were the lone Bluejays to score in double-figures. Creighton is now 12-10 this season and tied for fourth in the BIG EAST with a 6-5 record.
UConn (21-1, 11-0 BIG EAST) had four players score in double-digits, led by 16 from freshman Braylon Mullins. Alex Karaban and Silas Demary Jr. both had 15 points and six rebounds, while Solo Ball added 11 points. The Huskies shot 54.1 percent on the floor while eclipsing the 70 point mark in regulation for the first time in 13 all-time meetings against Creighton. Connecticut won the rebound battle 37-24 and converted 13 offensive rebounds into 23 second-chance points.
Creighton took its final lead of the night at 18-17 on an Isaac Traudt three-pointer and the score was knotted at 27-all before UConn ended the first half on a 14-3 run that included eight second-chance points. That put the Huskies in front 41-30 at the break after neither team had led by more than four points in the first 18 minutes of the contest.
A bucket by Harper to open the second half dropped the deficit into single-digits for the final time, as a 14-2 barrage from UConn a short time later gave the visitors a 62-40 advantage that would be too much for the hosts to overcome.
Creighton is back in action on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. Central game at Georgetown that will air on NBC Sports Network and stream on Peacock.
